ニューヨークタイムズは、中国で汚染ミルク事件の責任の責任を問われた企業グループが、被害者と家族への保障として160億円を支払うと伝えています（pay $160 million in compensation to the victims and their families）。Compensationは損害補償金自体も意味します。

France 24では、ミルク汚染事件で起訴された女性経営者の証拠は決定的ではないので、死刑は免れるだろうとしています。（she would thus escape the death penalty）。ここでは、Escapeの用法が重要かもしれなせん。

中国経済網では、サンル・グループの女性経営者を幼児６人の死亡と、２９万人の腎臓疾患に責任があるとするのは困難（find it hard to associate her with the scandal that saw six babies dead and at lead 290,000 others afflicted with kidney problems）とも伝えています。Afflicted withはsuffered fromと似た表現です。
